MASS Community Health Resource Day 2026: Free Resources & Real Impact

June 9, 2026 BY imani leave a comment

Free haircuts. Legal help. Mental health support. Reentry resources.

Something special happened at the MASS Community Health Resource Day 2026 and if you weren’t there, you’re going to wish you had been.

Imagine walking into a space where every single person there is focused on one thing: you. Your needs. Your questions. Your next step forward. That’s exactly the atmosphere Sabrina built from the ground up, and the community responded in a big way.

The Energy Was Undeniable

From the moment doors opened, it was clear this wasn’t your average community event. This was intentional. This was powerful. This was Hampton Roads showing up for itself and the turnout proved that when you build something real, people want to identify with it.

The Partners Who Made It Happen

This day didn’t just happen. It was built by organizations that believe in our vison and committed to changing lives. On our CHR Community Day, they brought everything they had:

  • HRCAP (Hampton Roads Community Action Program) — a cornerstone of community support, connecting residents to the resources they need to thrive
  • HRCAP Reentry Program — championed second chances and helping returning citizens step boldly into their next chapter
  • CSB Peer Drop-In Center — created a judgment-free space where mental health and recovery support feels human and accessible
  • CSB Harm Reduction and Pregnancy Program — showed up for some of the most vulnerable members of our community with compassion and zero judgment
  • Portsmouth Behavioral Health Services — brought critical mental health care directly to the people who need it most
  • Newport News Public Defenders Office — made sure every person in that room knew they had legal rights, and someone in their corner
  • VA Cares — honoring and serving veterans and underserved communities across Virginia with the care they deserve
  • Safe Harbor — because everyone deserves a safe place to land

Each of these organizations brought more than a table and a banner. They brought expertise, empathy, and a genuine commitment to the people walking through those doors.

The Moment Everyone’s Still Talking About

Ask anyone who attended the MASS CHR Community Day what stood out most, and there’s a good chance they’ll mention one name: Denise Jones of My Salon Suite.

Denise set up her chair and got to work — and she did not stop. Free haircuts, back to back, all day long, with a smile that never faded. No breaks. No slowdowns. She embodied everything this day was about and honestly? She deserves her own standing ovation.

This Is What Community Actually Looks Like

We talk a lot about “community” but days like this show what it actually means in practice. It means legal advocates sitting next to harm reduction specialists. It means reentry programs sharing space with behavioral health providers. It means a barber giving someone a fresh cut that makes them walk a little taller on their way to talk to a case manager.

It means barriers coming down. Walls disappearing. People leaving with more hope than they walked in with.

Sabrina, You Did That.

Behind every great event is someone who refused to let the details slip… someone who made a hundred phone calls, solved problems no one else saw coming, and held the vision together when things got complicated. For CHR Community Day, that person was Sabrina.

We see you. We appreciate you. And this community is better because of you.

The Takeaway

If you’ve ever felt like the system wasn’t built for you, days like this exist to prove otherwise. Resources are out there. People who care are out there. And MASS will keep creating spaces where all of it comes together.
